We made it out for a fun hiking adventure by Boulder River, located near Darrington, Washington. This trail wasn’t too populated when we went out, but this was just as trails were becoming open to the public mid May during the 2020 pandemic lock downs.
It was an overcast day with occasional drizzle from above, but we dig that kind of stuff out here. The trails are a little easier to handle for a long duration when there is less heat and direct sunlight. Part of the PNW charm 🙂
We primarily stayed on the beaten path, but there were plenty of opportunities to stray off the path and get closer to the river and falls. This allowed for some chill time without being in the way of other hikers.
Overall, the trail was easy-moderate. There wasn’t ever too much incline, but there were a few spots that required climbing over, under, or through wet, fallen trees. While it added just a sprinkle of the “extreme factor” without adding too much danger, we would still recommend exercising a little bit of caution on this trail. The poles certainly came in handy.
